Start with the demonstration

Explore the fictional Riverside project through Measure, Allocate, Move, Verify, and Export. The ellipsis at the top right opens Project actions, including detailed planning and Professional. Restoring the fictional demo archives your existing saved project before replacing it.

Free projects support up to six destination shelves and two waves each. The fictional demo includes report access. Professional is an optional one-time purchase for larger real-project approvals and PDF/CSV reports. JSON backup export and restoration remain available without purchase. The app keeps one active local project, with archives for recovery.

Measurements and CSV import

Enter source segments and destination shelves in their physical and classification order. Call numbers are labels; the app does not automatically sort them. Choose inches, centimeters, or feet. Detailed measurement editors also accept mixed feet and inches, such as 5 ft 6 in.

Open Project actions → Projects, imports & scenarios → Paste or edit CSV to see the supplied column format, or select Import CSV file. CSV uses period decimals and explicit in, cm, or ft units. Review row-level validation before applying the import. Arbitrary spreadsheet layouts and Excel formulas are not supported; CSV files are limited to 2 MB.

If an allocation cannot fit, inspect target fill, usable shelf capacity, obstructions, oversize compatibility, fixed starts, and whole-segment rules. Correct the draft and review the allocation before choosing Approve route & generate waves.

Moves, QR checkpoints, and shelf reading

Approve a route, then work through its carts in order. Enter observed first and last labels and an operator label when loading. Confirm unloading after the physical move. The next checkpoint is saved locally, so reopening the app resumes the route.

Camera scanning is optional and depends on compatible hardware and camera permission. Use manual checkpoint confirmation when scanning is unavailable. A scan identifies the checkpoint; it does not confirm that material has moved. Codes from a different project, version, cart, or step cannot advance the route.

Before verifying a shelf, unload its carts and check that observed bounds match the recorded cart bounds. Record exceptions with custody and an owner, then resolve or explicitly defer them. A later relevant exception makes an earlier shelf reading stale. Closure requires current readings or explicit deferrals and retains deferred work in the audit.

Reports and printing

Export uses the selected approved version and its recorded checkpoints. Unapproved draft changes do not become approved instructions. Choose Letter or A4, create a PDF, then use Share or Print. Confirm printer settings and inspect a sample before printing a full packet.

PDFs contain searchable text but are not tagged accessible PDFs. Printed packets are snapshots: check the live project and physical custody before resuming a move from a printed sheet.

Backups and recovery

Use Export → Export versioned project backup to save a JSON file through the system share sheet. Restore it through Project actions → Projects, imports & scenarios → Restore JSON backup from Files. The app validates the backup and archives the current saved project before replacing it. Local archives are available on the same planning screen.

Local archives cannot protect against losing the device. Keep a separate backup in an institution-approved location. A file transferred between devices is a snapshot; ShelfWaypoint does not merge simultaneous edits or synchronize projects automatically.

If a saved file cannot be read, the app preserves it and blocks ordinary edits from overwriting it. Use planning to restore a valid backup or create a new project. Contact support before deleting the app if you need to retain local data.

Professional purchase and restore

The planned launch price is $29.99 USD for a one-time Professional purchase, with no subscription. When ShelfWaypoint is available, open Project actions → Professional. Apple shows the current localized price before confirmation. Choose Restore Purchases using the Apple Account that made the purchase.

If Professional is unavailable, check your connection and App Store account, then reopen Professional. Local projects and JSON backups remain available. For institution-managed devices, ask your IT administrator which purchase and account arrangements are permitted.

Privacy and removing local data

There is no ShelfWaypoint account. Creating a new project or restoring the demo preserves earlier saved data in local archives. The current app has no individual archive-deletion control. To remove all app-local data, use Delete App, rather than Offload App, in device Settings. Export what you need first and manage separately any copies shared to Files, email, other apps, or backups.

What the app measures

ShelfWaypoint plans linear shelf space and staff-defined order. It does not assess cart weight, certify safe handling, catalog every book, or infer exact call numbers at split points. Follow your institution's handling procedures and inspect the actual material throughout the move.
